Nakitai Watashi wa Neko wo Kaburu aka. A Whisker Away is a light romance story with a pinch of magic. It certainly has the potential to be a Disney movie. However, orchestrated by Studio Colorido, It conveys more of Japanese traditional anime art. The Movie is themed around Sasaki, Hinode and cats. Our protagonist Miyo Sasaki, aka. Muge is a bright 2nd year Junior High schooler with an enigmatic personality who has been lauded and teased for being at full strength at all times. Muge fall in love with her classmate Kento Hinode and resolutely pursue him in search of happiness. She tries repeatedly to get Hinode’s notice, but Hinode takes no attention of her. Earlier, she discovers a mask that let her transform in a Cat and Muge realizes that the only way to get close to Hinode is to be a cat. However, after some consecutive transformation, the boundary between herself and the cat becomes ambiguous and Muge decided to abandon her humanity. Junichi Satou has purr-fectly executed the animation. However, when it comes to the story there are few plot holes.
Take
A Whisker Away is a good story conceived with no great shakes. It does have potential to be much better if plot gaps were to filled and executed. While the whole animation design is snugly and cute, what bugged is Hinode’s story. It was left amid nowhere and used just as an analogy. Even for analogy, it was pretty vague and rough. Hinode’s story doesn’t go further or end with movie. It got stuck and kept on bugging probably because Hinode was one of the main character that is normally explored in a movie or series. If we talk about other aspects as Animation or Sound Works of A Whisker Away, It weighs on the standard.

Animation
The animation style of A Whisker Away is tender and cute with splendid character design. It isn’t as vibrant as Makoto Shinkai’s Tenki No Ko aka. Weathering with You or Kimi No Na Wa aka. Your Name. However, certain sequences and few viewing angles are executed brilliantly. Animators did a number when it comes to lighting and shadows.
The overall sound work of a Whisker Away is pretty standard and doesn’t contain any unnecessary and over saturated sound. The Sound is neither outstanding nor to be bothered with. However, the theme track does add value to the movie, which was performed by Yorushika. There is another amazing post-roll track as well.
