Isekai has a history of stepping on top of every other anime genre and coming out as one of the most popular genres in the contemporary scenario. That being said, the quality of the genre varies from being as good as Re:ZERO-Starting Life in Another World- to as monotonous as ‘The 8th Son? Are you Kidding Me?’. However, most of the Isekai anime is pretty cliche and follow the usual predictable pattern, character growth and lacks the genuinity.
So, how is Jobless Reincarnation different? For, starters Jobless Reincarnation is far more vast and versed than many of the recent Isekai anime. One shouldn’t expect less from the same, as their official website claims ‘Jobless’ as the pioneer or the progenitor of the modern Isekai. However, Kim Morrissy; an ANN reporter has different views over it.
Jobless Reincarnation aka Mushoku Tensei is the anime that bridges the gap between the Isekai genres. It is based on the light novel of the same name written by Rifujin na Magonote. The world-building of the anime is well thought and very vast. The characters are planned out in a verbatim manner as well.
Jobless Reincarnation follows Rudeus Greyrat; The protagonist who was 40-yr old shut-in neet incapable of doing day to day tasks after being mentally traumatized due to his childhood bullying. Later, he dies saving a girl from a truck accident and reincarnate into another world with all his memories intact. Rudeus is blessed with opulent magical powers and charisma. His character portrays a semi-pervert good-hearted individual who cares for his family and friends. The anime follows his character development and relates how he can make this another life better by comparing it to his previous life.
The Animation of the show is pretty good. No, I really meant that. This anime makes you realise, How good can an animation turn out if you have a great budget, great animators and a certain commitment. In honesty, It felt more like a movie than an anime series. They certainly had spent a lot of budget on the eye of the dragon god Orsted. Several instances can be pointed out similar to it.
However the nuances, such as language, region and terrain separate this Isekai from its counterparts. These slight but certain things make a huge difference in the anime altogether. Usually, when the protagonist gets summoned/reincarnated in the other world. S/he has given the usual power of speech alongside the memories that they keep in order to make the writing process easy. However, Mushoku Tensei decided to go old school. Every species has a different linguistic approach. Hence, the protagonist spends time learning different languages making the more world more interesting, approachable and genuine.
The sound animation is also at par as you can expect from a great anime. Jobless Reincarnation is made by Studio Bind, ‘Jobless’ being its first show. However, most of the animators working on the project are known for their works in White Fox; The studio responsible for masterpieces as Re:ZERO-Starting Life in Another World and Steins Gate
