The Promised Neverland – A Complex Psychological Warfare, Horrors Lived by Orphans in Blockade

The Promised Neverland is a perfect blend of Psychological, Sci-Fi, Mystery, Horror and Thriller.

The Promised Neverland has a polarized view in anime community while some consider it as an extraordinary anime, others discard it as a piece of crap. Probably, because the animation trades the complex psychological warfare with conventional horror. The promised neverland lacks the required depth in the series and the mystery is simplified. Despite all aforementioned shortcomings the constant tension and few decent scares in the series keep you on the edge of the seat.

As speculation, The team might have decided to simplify the series and follow on traditional grounds rather experiment with it. The plot of the series is conceived well enough to make you stuck on seats for next 4-Hours that is, if you binge the 12-Episode run. In the Grace Field House, an orphanage surrounded by a vast forest with only gated entrance lived happy several orphans. These orphans are looked after by concierge ‘mama’; Isabella.

Although, The children are free to spend their time as they please, there are only two rules to bar them. One can not wander around the edges of the orphanage and they have no choice but to appear for the daily test. Time flies and all happy moment must come to an end ie, Every few months one regular child is adopted and sent to live with their new family… Never to be heard again. The three eldest siblings Emma, Ray and Norman are suspicious about something unusual is going on in the Grace Field House and discovers the cruel fate of the child and the twisted nature of their ‘mama’

What sets the promised neverland apart wasn’t actually the premise but the ultimate goal of every child to escape the certain fate and the psychological tension borne from characters suffering the horror of hellish dystopian world. The plot start to losing it essence somewhere around the middle, However, it quickly recovered from the fall.

Animation

The promised neverland is setup in an orphanage surrounded by a vast forest. the animation, drawings and frames are optimal in the series. It doesn’t contain superb or splendid animation to make you go awe. However, it neither let the quality fall down to dusk. the character designs are pretty good and follow much from the manga. The overall animation can be termed as decent.

The sound work in the series is great. The ambience, the intensity, the thrill, let alone the whole series is based greatly on the sound deal in order to execute vicarious horror, and the team delivered it perfectly. The jump scares and the tension seems much more real thanks to the sound team of Cloverworks. Overall sound work of The Promised Neverland is great not to mention the opening theme ‘Touch Off’.
